Robert Simonds’ STX teams up with Hulu for Uglydolls Franchise

American film producer Robert Simonds’ next-generation media company STX Entertainment has announced a new agreement with premium streaming service Hulu for an animated franchise UGLYDOLLS. The deal involves a 26-episode series order of UGLYDOLLS. The series will be developed and produced as an animated kids-series and the agreement also includes the exclusive SVOD rights to the upcoming new animated feature film. Hulu will be streaming both the film and the series in the U.S. market while STX keeps the international rights with itself.

STXtv will be the studio and producer for the animated kids series which will be based on the UGLYDOLLS animated feature film. The film is expected to release in theatres in 2019 and is already in works at STXfilms. The UGLYDOLLS brand enjoys a cult follower-ship around the world. It was named as Toy of the Year in 2006 by the Toy Industry Association. The characters of UGLYDOLLS are unique for their ugliness and loved by everyone including children, teenagers and adults. UGLYDOLLS marks STXtv’s third scripted production project in the last five months.
